AMAR is Asociación Ministerio Alto Refugio, (High Refuge Ministries), a nongovernmental organization in Paraguay that works with people living with HIV/AIDS. We are committed to exposing the reality of the AIDS epidemic in Paraguay, standing on the principle that only through sexual abstinence and faithfulness in marriage will we be able to eradicate HIV/AIDS completely. We also aim to eliminate discrimination toward people living with HIV/AIDS by giving correct information and encouraging people to respond positively to the growing needs of people infected with HIV/AIDS in Paraguay. We provide many free services to those living with HIV/AIDS, including counselling, hospital chaplaincy, a support group, educational AIDS talks, meals, groceries, clothing, baby supplies, and dental service. Our children’s department, Dulce Refugio (Sweet Refuge) provides holistic care for children infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.
AMAR has its legal status in Paraguay and is supported by several Mennonite churches in Paraguay and the Evangelical Mennonite Conference (EMC) in Canada. Since 2011 AMAR has been working together with KM 81 Mennonite Hospital in the fight against HIV.
We encourage you to read the testimonies of our patients and volunteers, and we would greatly appreciate your support through donations of money or supplies, or through volunteer service. Please contact us if you have any questions.
